The 2006 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vigneto
Sant’Urbano is a beautiful, firm wine. Sweet, perfumed cherries, roses, leather, licorice and minerals come
together nicely in this deceptively mid-weight, structured Amarone. Ideally the wine should be opened at
least thirty minutes in advance to allow for some of the small imperfections in the bouquet to blow off.
This is a gorgeous effort from Speri. Drink 2014-2026.

Notes
The Monte Sant’Urbano property in the
municipality of Fumane: located on a hill at between 280 and 350 m./a.s.l., it benefits from excellent
exposure to sunlight. The average age of the vines is high. Manual selection of the finest bunches
followed by drying for around 100 days, with a loss of about 40% in the weight of the grapes. These are
destemmed and pressed and fermentation with maceration takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel
tanks. 24 months in 500 l. French oak tonneaux and 18 months in medium-to-large Slavonian oak casks.
Maturation in bottle for 12 months.

Organic Albariño from the C5 vineyard in the Los Olivos District AVA, made in the old, traditional homemade style of Rias Baixas. Fresh with delicate fruit. Aromas of grapefruit with a delicate floral overtone, the palate is lively and refreshing with generous white peach flavours and a hint of lime on the finish. A soft yet crisp and aromatic white, it illustrates Laurent’s signature style of clear pure fruit.

97 Points, Wine AdvocateOnly produced in select vintages when growing conditions are deemed exceptional, this is one of the most coveted bottles in Italian wine. The Quintarelli Giuseppe 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva represents the last vintage seen by Bepi himself. Giuseppe Quintarelli died in January 2012 at age 84 following his struggle with Parkinson's disease. There's magic in this wine, and we raise a glass to the master of Negrar. It delivers elegant class and concentration, fruit freshness and the power (plus 16.5% alcohol) that comes with appassimento. It's an ethereal wine from a hot and dry vintage. There are many contradictions within the bottle, but it ultimately settles on a place of balance and beauty. I opened bottle number 1,443 of only 5,726 released. Drink: 2025-2060
Giuseppe established the winery as the source of the most traditional styles of Amarone, ageing it for seven years in Slavonian oak; the result is one of the most complex wines produced in Italy. Quintarelli wines are still the unmatched benchmark for Amarone. Even though he is traditional in his Amarone production, it does not follow that Giuseppe is afraid of innovation.

Winemaker's Notes
Marietta Cellars sits in the entrance to a small canyon off Alexander Valley. Known as Angeli Ranch after the family who originally settled here in 1886, this property’s vineyards connect gravel swales from the Russian River to terraced knolls invisible from the valley floor. The extremes of this site create a wine that is powerful but has surprising elegance and clarity.
Our Estate Series represents our purest expressions of place. Having worked with the fruit from tens of vineyards over the years, we have identified three special sites that we believe produce extraordinary wine. These wines are produced in limited quantities, have ultra-developed acid and tannin profiles and achieve a beautiful balance of intense structure and bright aromatics.

Winemaker Notes
Arcanum is the pinnacle of the estate’s offerings. A pure Cabernet Franc and true signature of the estate, this remarkable wine is built to age yet is drinkable young, offering aromas of violets, roses and raspberries, with long and delicate spice notes; it is a wine that is seductive yet subtle. Arcanum is sourced from 12 different blocks of Cabernet Franc that each year, thanks to their superb exposure and sandy clay soils, produce the finest expression of the variety for the leading wine of the estate.
The 2017 vintage was powerful with hot summer days and abundant sunshine, ripening the Cabernet Franc rapidly. But as summer transitioned to fall, Tuscany had moderate rainfall and cool evenings, allowing the grapes ample time on the vine. This vintage was exceptionally ripe with lower yields that produced wines with concentrated and notably intense flavours.
A Cabernet Franc that embodies a sense-of-place, distinctive of the diverse micro-crus of each vineyard block hand-selected for this vintage. Aromas of sweet oregano, mint and tart cherries are familiar to the nose on this Tuscan single-varietal wine. The palate is soft and round, framed by subtle acid. A core of fresh blueberries, dark chocolate and salted caramel are balanced by a long, elegant finish with hints of licorice, cedar and tobacco. A powerful, expressive Cabernet Franc to be enjoyed for decades.
95 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This wine is now a 100% expression of Cabernet Franc. The 2017 Arcanum is the top-shelf red from Tenuta di Arceno. It is a rich, almost meaty wine, with dark fruit, savory tobacco, smoked bacon and sweet earth. What distinguishes this hot-vintage wine, however, are the rosemary and dried lavender that give this wine an authentically Tuscan personality. This is really quite nice.

The 2021 Armé Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 10% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. It has pretty tones of blueberries and black cherries with nuances of lavender, thyme and underbrush. The palate is medium-bodied, chalky and refreshing, with surprising depth of crunchy fruit and floral sparks across the long, juicy finish.
Winemaker NotesMarietta’s husband, Armé, nurtured my father’s love for this majestic landscape we call home. Like an early morning horse ride through chaparral, this Cabernet kicks up waves of floral, mint, and dusty sage on the nose. Elevated, clear, and refreshing, this wine startles and intrigues. Across the palate a broad flood of grippy tannins is eroded by a core of velvet. Fresh and rounded, big yet steely, with hints of Kalamata olive under the primary note of blueberry, this wine has incredible focus with settled length. Delicious now, this will show added layers and depth over the next 5-15 years.
The grapes for this wine are hand selected from our Estate vineyards in Alexander Valley, the Yorkville Highlands and McDowell Valley. The wine is aged for 20 months in neutral barrels. 6,000 cases produced.
An exemplary California Cabernet aromatic experience filled with dried, minty herbs, and lavender. Blackberries, bright cherries and plums, with hints of leather and tobacco, all intertwine for a wonderfully balanced mouthfeel. This wine is sumptuous yet racy, polished yet spirited, delicious and gratifying- an iconic result in the glass.

The B Side Cabernet Sauvignon is a deeply concentrated and expressive wine. Aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, currants, Kalamata olive, and dried lavender are pronounced on the nose. This is a full-bodied wine with juicy layers of dark fruit, jam, baked pie, and hints of cinnamon flavor. The brooding fruit is quintessential Napa and Sonoma and with ripe, powdery tannins the wine is soft and easy to enjoy in its youth. The wine is aged for 12 months in predominately French oak barrels (Francois Frere & Radoux) with a small portion seeing time in American Oak. The toasty French oak frames the wine and the addition of a small amount of American oak gives a pleasing, sweet coconut lift. This overall wine is deep, well-structured, and intensely flavored with soft tannins and a lengthy finish.

Beginning with meticulous site selection and vineyard design started in 1991, Felton Road's story is one of refusal to compromise. A strict 100% estate policy with fully organic and biodynamic viticulture (Demeter certified) ensures that our fruit arrives at the winery as pure as it can be, while our entire estate comes as close to true sustainability as is possible. A commitment to hands off winemaking: gravity flow, wild yeasts, wild malo, an avoidance of fining and filtration all help preserve the wine's expression of its terroir. The result is Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which accurately express the authenticity and complexity of our unique vineyards.Aromas of citrus peel and ginger combine with a distinct minerality. A burst of sweetness on first sip is immediately complimented by ripe stonefruit and mandarin flavours. The residual sugar quickly becomes secondary once the acidity and vibrancy of the fruit complete the harmonious mouthfeel. A tropical finish that lingers and intrigues.

The freshly harvested product is subjected to crushing and destemming followed by a maceration of 18-25 days in special tanks which allow the noble components of the skin to be released continuously. When the optimal ratio between color and extracted tannins has been reached, the racking and the first racking are carried out.
Dark garnet colour. Elegant and harmonious in the aromas with persistent fruity, spicy, balsamic and mineral notes. Warm and strong body, balanced in flavors and powerful in aromas. Long and intense finish. It lends itself to long aging even for more than fifteen years.

Winemaker NotesIn Castiglione Falletto, the Rocche Moriondino cru is considered the most important mention of the municipal area, the one that over the decades has always given harmonious and elegant wines, destined to maintain its features for a long time. The Rocche hills have a steeper slope facing south-east and another, gentler, facing south-west. It is precisely on this side that the Bricco Rocche and Rocche Moriondino cru are found.
The Riserva dell’Ulivo is produced only in the best vintages, when the grapes reach the perfect degree of ripeness and intensity of perfume, giving the wine its extraordinary bouquet and lasting power. It is aged for more than four years in barrel, then 12 months in bottle, only in the fifth year can the wine legally become a Riserva.
Warm and dry, but pleasantly fruity. It reminds of caramelized fruits and cherry compote. The sweet tannins and great structure, give it elegance and balance.

The classic cherry, berry and plum fruit characters that define the Bartolucci Vineyard are once again evident in this bottling. The wine is framed by a sense of warm, spice box characters, toast and vanilla. Concentrated and rich, this age worthy wine is quite enjoyable upon release and will easily continue to be delicious for another 10 years.
92 Points, VinousThe 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Bartolucci Vineyard is laced with the essence of raspberry jam, chocolate, licorice, mocha, dried flowers and mint. Drink this heady, exotic St. Helena Cabernet over the next decade or so.

Basa is made from Verdejo and Viura grapes in the Rueda DO, about two hours northwest of Madrid. The region is famous for fresh white wines made from Verdejo and this is a fitting example. The name comes from the 40-year-old 'baso' or bush-trained vines that are planted on limestone-rich soils at over 700-meters elevation on a plateau along the Duero River. The vineyard is farmed organically, and fermentation is carried out spontaneously with native yeast. Expect a fresh, fruit-driven white wine with just the right balance between charming fruit and aromatic complexity.
91 Points, Vinous (review for 2021 vintage)
Pale, green-tinged yellow. Fresh citrus fruits, succulent herbs and white flowers on the incisive, mineral-accented nose. Taut and energetic on the palate, offering juicy Meyer lemon and green apple flavors that slowly put on weight with air. Finishes on a repeating mineral note, with very good persistence and lingering fennel and lemon pith qualities.

Fruit for this wine is sourced from 50-year-old vines, growing on hills around the cru sites in the northern part of region. The soil is partially granitic, which helps to retain heat in the day but cools off by the evening, contributing to the wine's fresh fruit quality. This Gamay is hand harvested, partially destemmed, undergoes semi-carbonic maceration and is fermented with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in stainless steel.
Red-fruited with notes of cherry, raspberry, strawberry but also has a hint of cassis. There is a slight dash of spice, dried herbs and floral character to it as well. Fresh and light with fine-grained tannins. Pop this in the fridge for 20 minutes and enjoy it with a slight chill!

Producer Notes
Part of the First Editions collection from Hunter Laing, this 16 year-old single malt made by Benrinnes was aged solely in a sherry butt and bottled at 55.1% ABV. The nose holds notes of caramel and rhubarb, and the palate brings flavours like cinnamon and toffee apples. The finish is dryer, with notes of coffee and spice. Only 270 bottles are available worldwide.
Built in 1826, at the foot of the Rinnes mountain, the distillery was washed away by flood 3 years later. Rebuilt, bankrupted twice and reopened only to be then burned to the ground in 1859. The new make spirit is robust due to short neck stills and worm tub condensers. A rarity in Scotland single malt, Benrinnes was partially triple distilled until 2007.

Winemaker Notes
We love the Touraine rouge cuvée wines from the Loire that are typically served as bistro wines in Paris, and refer to them as inspiration for our “Béton” blend. The wines we enjoyed many years ago while training in France were the inspiration for the Béton cuvée. We attribute the success of our red blend, now in it's ninth vintage, to the desire of so many to have an intriguing and food friendly, yet never overly heavy or boozy red wine as a mainstay at the dinner table. The heart of this wine will always hale from the experiences we felt from the wines of the Loire, but we look at the Pacific Northwest more broadly as our palate to draw inspiration and the grapes that make this wine so unique each vintage.Cabernet Franc 39%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Côt 20%, Gamay Noir 11%, & Pinot Noir 10%

Winemaker Notes
Brilliant, intensive yellow is the color of our white blend Beyond the Clouds. In the nose, a complex, beguiling play of aromas unfurls with fruity nuances of exotic fruits such as pineapple, notes of blossoms and flowers, of rose petals and light toast aromas. Dense and complex, the wine enthuses on the palate: with fullness and structure, creamily soft and elegant, stimulatingly fresh and juicy with a discreetly incorporated, modest note of wood and a long reverberation of taste.
96 Points, James Button, Decanter (2020 Vintage)
I've asked fifth-generation Julia Walch on several occasions about the blend for Beyond The Clouds, but she steadfastly refuses to give away the secret, other than to confirm that it's ‘up to 85% Chardonnay’. 2000 was the first release and it has since risen to become one of Alto Adige's most noteworthy whites. The grapes are all picked on the same day and co-fermented in French oak barriques, one-third new. Still woody, it's clean and fresh with an intense stony core of pithy pink grapefruit, apricot skin, nectarine, and some smoky, flinty notes. Vertical and with great balance, it combines glacial freshness with a creamy, fragrant finish of apricot and jasmine. Older vintages have developed lovely exotic yellow fruit characters, and you can expect the same here. Loads of potential.

All our wines are organic and vegan, respecting each variety at all times, so that they express in the bottle the place where theycome from. The altitude, cold climate and poor soils result in wines with their own personality. Different among them, as the varieties are different, but they all maintain a line of freshness, fruit and minerality of our terroir.
Almost golden, aromas of high intensity, lemon, grapefruit, pear, toasted bread, it is a mature and fine wine that on the nose presents aromas of almonds, butter, spicy notes, on the palate it is expressed with intensity and refinement, biological aging makes to this unique and unrepeatable wine, very dry and with saline touches, with good freshness and persistent on the palate

Winemaker Notes
The grapes for this wine come from vineyards in General Roca, Alto Valle de Río Negro, Patagonia. The grapes are harvested manually in 20kg cans during the first week of April. They undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration for 48 hours, alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature in cement vessels of 9,000 liters capacity for a period of 12 days with periodic pump-overs and de-staging. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged and preserved until bottling. Aging period in the bottle is for 3 months.
The wine is an intense red with violet tints and aromas of small red fruits. From the Patagonian mountain range, this wine has notes of cassis, raspberry, plum and mint. It is well-balanced, with soft tannins, velvety and very fruity.

Winemaker Notes
Characterised by rare freshness, this cuvée is delightfully chiseled and saline whilst also displaying the fullness of a prolonged lees ageing. The illustrating artwork was created by French artist Anne Commet inspired by the theme "Liberté."A brilliant, pale gold tint, with a fine and chiselled effervescence. Nose: A both fresh and biting, and generous. Primary notes of cooled ashes and white flowers (hawthorn), opening somewhat slowly to reveal white peach and lemon verbena, with fresh almond. Palate: Lively and precise, with a crystalline and limpid attack, diffusing a beguiling salinity. The wine then settles in the mouth with a texture that is both ample and molten. There is almost a minty freshness on the palate, accompanied – as the wine opens up – by a slightly fleshy fruitiness plums which evolves towards roasted hazelnuts. It calls for the texture of monkfish or prawns as an accompaniment.
94 Points, Jamie Goode”From the Grand Cru villages of Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger. Disgorged in May 2021 after seven years on lees, dosage 4.5 g/litre. Concentrated but delicate and fresh with a pure citrus fruit palate, with some subtle saltiness and a hint of oyster shell. It’s very bright with a lovely transparency across the palate: no sign of heaviness and a lovely acid line, with fine toastiness and the crispness of a cold Autumn morning. Pure lemony fruit runs the show here: serious, assured.”

Brave 2021 (Cab Franc/Cab Sauv/Merlot)
Scared is what you feel, BRAVE is what you do! Grown in the Helderberg Vineyard - right next to Somerset West. Decomposed granitic soil down the mountain at 190 meters above sea level protected against the South Easter. The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness and cooled overnight to 4 degrees celsius. The next morning the grapes were destemmed to open top fermenters. The juice underwent spontaneous fermentation and stayed on the skins for as long as possible. Pressed into French oak small barrels - 40% new oak, 18 months in barrel, blended and bottled.
Orbitofrontal Cortex 2022 (Best White)
The best white blend from the winemaker's cellar according to his conscious mind, which is called (named after the scientific name for the part of your brain where conscious decisions are made) - Inspired by LIMBIC 2015 (a wine from my subconscious). A blend off - Piekenierskloof Grenache blanc, Swartland Clairette Blanche, Swartland Fernão Pires, Elgin Semillon and Voor Paardeberg Verdelho.
Pseudonym 2022 (Cinsault)
Pseudonym is made from a small 68-year old little vineyard. It grows in a little valley into the mountain in Darling. Seeing that it is the only food source around, the birds eat the grapes every year. The farmer could never use the valley for something else, so he kept the vineyard. When the grapes eventually ripened, there wouldn’t be much left to harvest. He would then pick the bits and throw it with the other grapes from the farm headed for the big co-operative winery. This was what had happened for 64 years. I asked him if we could cover the whole vineyard with bird nets, I bought the nets and he gave the labour. It was at the age of 65 when, for the first time, a wine was made exclusively from that little vineyard.
Searching for l'Estrange 2022 ( Palomino/Verdelho)
A whole-bunch, clay pot, bees-waxy Palomino. The wine is true to it’s name - (L’E) STRANGE! It's made from humble Palomino, which originated in the Sherry producing areas of Spain. The cuttings were brought to the African continent by ship and planted in 1965 on the mountain in Piekenierskloof. The 54-year old bush-vine vineyard, grown in African soil was made in African pots made from Limpopo clay, enhanced by the wax of African bees producing honey from African flora - meticulously guided, bottled and labelled by the colourful hands of the African people.
Autumn Equinox 2022 (Weisser Riesling/Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc)
A resurrected wine, as it was called DOK in a previous life - made from an assemblage of Semillon, 30% Riesling and 25% Sauvignon Blanc. Aged in amphoras and old wood for a year, it's sappy, intense and very stony, with pear, lemon zest and lanolin notes and layers of intrigue and complexity.
