Clear and brilliant color, a very pale pink tinged with raspberry reflections. This complex and expressive rosé reveals a palette of varied aromas such as small red fruits, white peach or even bergamot enhanced with a floral note enveloping the whole. In the mouth, the first sensation is ample and fleshy, then the mid-palate becomes fresher, giving way to a beautiful acidic tension which makes this rosé harmonious and elegant.

This wine is straw yellow. The grapes have been harvested by hand in the hilly vineyards of the Asolana DOCG and then were softly pressed. The careful fermentation of the must is done at a temperature of 16/18 ° C, producing a delicate base wine, which is then sparkled at a low temperature to fully respect the precious aromas. After a few weeks of rest in the bottle the delicate floral and citrus bouquet comes to life; the dry, fresh taste and savory, fruity notes are in harmony. The wine is elegant, fruit forward and has a clean finish with refreshing acidity. The 2016 Haut Batailley can be seen as a transitional wine. The property was sold to the Cazes family at the end of March 2017, so the Borie family made the wines and the Cazes family essentially finished the barrel maturation. As a consequence, the label will probably not be the new design that will adorn vintages henceforth. This has a tightly wound bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and subtle floral notes (pressed iris petals and a touch of violet). The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly chalky tannins. What I love about this Haut-Batailley, caught in limbo, is that it responds with so much freshness, vitality and tension, especially on the finish. Excellent.

Marietta Cellars sits in the entrance to a small canyon off Alexander Valley. Known as Angeli Ranch after the family who originally settled here in 1886, this property’s vineyards connect gravel swales from the Russian River to terraced knolls invisible from the valley floor. The extremes of this site create a wine that is powerful but has surprising elegance and clarity. 

The Gibson Block is the heart of the McDowell Valley AVA. It is planted with some of the oldest Syrah and Grenache in California. This ancient, dry farmed mixed block next to the original Gibson Homestead has been producing grapes for over a hundred years. Reflecting the hidden property where it is grown, this Syrah is quiet, obscure and profound. Limited in production due to the unique grape source, this wine is built to enjoy with food and will age at least a decade, only increasing in subtleness and complexity.

In Castiglione Falletto, the Rocche Moriondino cru is considered the most important mention of the municipal area, the one that over the decades has always given harmonious and elegant wines, destined to maintain its features for a long time. The Rocche hills have a steeper slope facing south-east and another, gentler, facing south-west. It is precisely on this side that the Bricco Rocche and Rocche Moriondino cru are found.

The Riserva dell’Ulivo is produced only in the best vintages, when the grapes reach the perfect degree of ripeness and intensity of perfume, giving the wine its extraordinary bouquet and lasting power. It is aged for more than four years in barrel, then 12 months  in bottle, only in the fifth year can the wine legally become a Riserva.

Warm and dry, but pleasantly fruity. It reminds of caramelized fruits and cherry compote.  The sweet tannins and great structure, give it elegance and balance.

There is a wild and rustic side to the 2019 Las Olvidadas Mezcla Tinta, even more noticeable in the 2020 I also tasted. It comes from their vineyard in Santa Cruz de Guarilihue where the ancient vines of País and San Francisco vines are intermixed in the field. 2019 was a dry vintage in Itata, but they managed to keep the wine at 13% alcohol and with mellow acidity. The grapes fermented together after being hand destemmed with a zaranda destemmer like the traditional Pipeño wines, without any additions. The wine was put in barrel for malolactic and 18 months of aging. It's perfumed and intriguing, light to medium-bodied and with a strong personality. 4,371 bottles and 50 magnums were filled in October 2020.

Winemaker Notes:

Our flagship white wine, a wine of grace and elegance, is a classic Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Each vineyard block was separately harvested, by hand, at peak maturity. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and then fermented entirely in barrel (French oak puncheons) with the majority undergoing only wild, spontaneous fermentation. One-quarter of the barrels were also allowed to undergo wild malolactic fermentation. All lots were barrel-aged for nine months, on the lees, with lees stirring. The final wine was created by blending together just the very best barrel lots, in order to create a wine of true complexity and elegance.

This wine is light gold in the glass. It has intense aromas of grapefruit, beeswax, lime zest, and meadow grasses. On the palate, it shows an array of flavours: lemon and lime and ripe grapefruit, with notes of peach and apricot and all tied together with bright, crisp citrus acidity. On the palate, the wine is full and rich with a textural softness resulting from sur-lie ageing. A lovely saline minerality strings it all together, through to the very long finish.

The Seggio river is the largest watercourse in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. Its source is up in Sassetta’s metalliferous hills, an area that was already well known in the Etruscan period and is extremely rich in underground deposits of ferrous minerals. It cuts across the entire area of Bolgheri and its alluvial debris enrich the characteristic clay soils with precious large pebbles, thus ensuring excellent drainage of the soil. This Bolgheri Rosso is produced with the typical varietals, Merlot 40%, Cabernet Sauvignon 30%, Cabernet Franc 20% and Petit Verdot 10%, carefully harvested and vinified to ensure density and concentration but also creating a very fresh and easy-drinking style of wine. In the glass, one can immediately grasp the impassioned enthusiasm and attention to the detail that we dedicate to this wine, which makes its debut with vintage 2014.

Intense ruby red in color. The nose offers nice fresh and crunchy fruit, enriched with mineral and spicy notes. The palate is medium bodied with red berry notes. The tannins are elegant, silky, enveloping and very soft. The finish is precise, clean and lively.

The low yields of the 2021 vintage offered fruit of exceptional quality. The lack of moisture defined the growing season but was counterbalanced by relatively even temperatures. The result of this fortunate combination was intense flavor throughout the vineyard and record small berries & clusters in the Chardonnay. Ideal end of season conditions allowed harvest decisions to be made entirely based on development of the fruit rather than concern for upcoming heat or rain events. The grapes were picked in the cool, early mornings to preserve their natural freshness, acidity and delicate flavors. Clean, cool fermentations in thick staved, mostly neutral, large format barrels produced wines of aromatic purity and complexity. We aged this wine on its lees for ten months with minimal ‘batonnage’ to optimize the aromatic freshness of the wine.

The 2021 Salus Chardonnay provides an adventure for the senses. It welcomes with perfectly ripened citrus, delicate florals, and limestone minerality. Marilisa and Franco Allegrini dedicated this single-varietal Cabernet Franc from their own vineyards on Via Bolgherese to their eldest brother Walter, who died in 2003. The 2015 vintage marked the beginning of an even more radical focus on the terroir and the quality of the grapes. Since then, a third fewer bottles have been filled each year, and the result is now a Bolgheri Superiore from their own grapes from the core zone of Bolgheri, which can hardly be surpassed in elegance and character. Compact and elegant Cabernet Franc with fine tobacco notes, ripe blackcurrant aromas, some pepper and eucalyptus, plus slightly earthy tones. The vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are on a very hilly area. They stretch over the slopes in between the hills of Aloxe Corton and Savigny-les-Beaune. In the village of Pernand-Vergelesses only six plots are classified as red Premiers Crus: les Fichots, en Caradeux, Creux de la Net, Iles des Vergelesses, Les Vergelesses, and Les Plantes des Champs. This locality is one of the oldest vineyards of Burgundy. It was planted in 1158 by the monks of the Abbaye de Maizières on a limestone marl soil.

Lovely dark garnet color with a beautiful shine.
Good aromatic intensity. The nose is very fresh with notes of small red and black fruits on a mineral and smoky background (marl limestone).
Well delineated, fresh and fruity on the palate. Good structure and balance, the tannins are present but fine. Persistent finish ending on the fruitiness and mineral freshness.

Decero Mini Ediciones are three varietal wines made in limited quantities from rare varieties: Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Tannat. These lesser-known varieties have long been respected around the world for their contribution to red wine blends. We planted these varieties, recognizing their potential to layer nuances in our halo blend ‘Decero Amano’.

The forecast of the 2016 vintage was set to be similar to the cool, rainy 2015 vintage. With this in mind, we plucked leaves not only on the east-facing but also on the west-facing canopy to ensure good airflow in face of cool rains. In reality, the intermittent rains stopped in January and the dry February and March saw phenolic ripeness achieved. Due to the dry final 6 weeks of maturation and the leaf plucking, this Tannat shows darker fruit flavours with high acidity .

Of this vintage only 2214 bottles of Tannat were made. The deep body and eponymous tannic structure of the wine combines blackberry, earthy coffee and leather notes. This wine has potential for extensive ageing.

The Meres Pinot comes from a 0.6 ha block on a gentle north-facing slope. The vines are the most exposed of all Kooyong’s Pinot plantings, leading to low vigour and low yields. The combination of the soils (less loamy topsoil and more clay subsoil than the other blocks), exposure and low vigour produce highly aromatic and perfumed red fruited Pinot Noir with a structure that, as the vines age, is becoming more robust and serious. Meres uses a portion of whole bunches in the fermentation and is the most aromatic of Kooyong’s Pinots.

Red cherry, raspberry and cranberry are present on the silky, mid-weighted palate. Energy and brightness are key, but not at the expense of length and depth. Lively acidity and dusty tannins from the whole bunch inclusion offer grip on the pithy orange peel accented finish. The acid and tannin provide the wine with freshness and the foundation for future development.

Short-pruned 40-50 year old vines from the "Wolfreben" lieu-dit in the Kaysersberg valley between the Clos des Capucins and the village of Kaysersberg. The soil is sand-silt on granite pebbles. The grapes growing on this terroir ripen early and produce wines with powerful concentration. Aged in large, old oak vats for 8–10 months. RS 11.6 g/l, TA 3.6 g/l, pH 3.7.
Seductive, pungent, rich nose suggestive of both cream and lychees. Luscious mid palate but finishes dry. Surprisingly appetising and contained – and characteristically varietal. Satin-smooth on the palate and, I would imagine, very versatile at the table.

It is at Cornas, perhaps the most secret of the northern Rhône Crus, that we wished to expand the range of our terroirs. There are only 130 hectares of vineyards in this, the only commune that bears the name of its Cru. Syrah reigns supreme on the steep, sun-kissed vineyard slopes. It is not hard to work out why Cornas got its name, which means “burnt land” in Celtic. It is hot in our parcel of Cornas, as it is throughout the entire appellation, with a dry heat which results in extremely ripe grapes. It is also not surprising that the harvesting of the northern Rhône’s red grapes often starts with this Cru.

To pay tribute to the terroir where our vines culminate and in our quest for excellence, we have named our Cru Hypsos. Litterally, “Hypso” means height in Greek, but remember that in ancient times, according to the philosophers, Hypsos meant a sublime and perfect achievement.

This quest for excellence is coupled with the strong character of this micro-terroir made up of granite and saprolite. Helios, the Sun, which shines on our vines, helps to achieve Hypsos. 

The dark, opaque, almost black-red hue of our Cornas displays purple tints in its youth, which take on beautiful amber tones over time. The wine is an explosion of red fruit on the nose, where subtle hints of violets and intense notes of pepper can also be detected. With age, the wine offers up aromas of truffle, liquorice and cooked fruit. This wine, for laying down, is instantly seductive due to the power of its tannins and later, due to their smooth and velvety texture.Ideal drinking temperature: 16°C. Food pairing suggestions: This wine, when young, pairs wonderfully well with red meats. With age, it is perfect with game.

This really is a successful Fonbadet full of rich dark liquorice that feels extremely typical of the appellation. The tannins are present but not rustic with a sense of vibrancy and uplift through the finish alongside a quickening feeling of slate minerality.A yield of 55hl/ha suggests there was such natural ripeness in this vintage that low yields were not necessary to get this intensity of flavour. No need to wait too long to get going on this.

This climate possesses the oldest vine in the commune planted in 1881. Gevrey-Chambertin's worldwide reputation is based on the excellence of its Grands Crus. "Mazoyère" means "small houses" in the french language. This Grand Cru is located in cold micro-climate which allows a clear distinction from its neighbour Les Charmes.

Installed on limestone outcrops covered with a red-colored soil. The rocky basement is very resistant but well cracked, which allows the roots of the vine to dive into the deep. This is the explanation of their amazing longevity. Some plots are more than 100 years old.

Burghound

A very reserved nose requires aggressive swirling to reveal aromas of cassis, plum liqueur, violet and soft earth nuances. Once again there is very good energy and volume to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with plenty of sap that imparts a textured quality to the mildly dry finish.

The 2015 vintage was characterized by a warm spring and early summer which brought forward harvesting by 10-5 days. There were frequent summer rains and the final crop of the vineyard was small in quantity but of high quality. These early picked grapes gave u s higher acidity than usual and slightly lower concentration, making the 2015 vintage wine slightly more elegant than its predecessor.

Petit Verdot is one of our three ‘rare varieties & limited edition’ wines. Of this 2015 vintage, only 8182 bottles were made. The wine has great aromatic intensity, displaying wild blueberry combined with quince notes and spices. Very well balanced, with deep flavours and structured tannins, it has superb ageing potential.
