Winemaker Notes

The Seggio river is the largest watercourse in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. Its source is up in Sassetta’s metalliferous hills, an area that was already well known in the Etruscan period and is extremely rich in underground deposits of ferrous minerals. It cuts across the entire area of Bolgheri and its alluvial debris enrich the characteristic clay soils with precious large pebbles, thus ensuring excellent drainage of the soil. This Bolgheri Rosso is produced with the typical varietals, Merlot 40%, Cabernet Sauvignon 30%, Cabernet Franc 20% and Petit Verdot 10%, carefully harvested and vinified to ensure density and concentration but also creating a very fresh and easy-drinking style of wine. In the glass, one can immediately grasp the impassioned enthusiasm and attention to the detail that we dedicate to this wine, which makes its debut with vintage 2014.

Intense ruby red in color. The nose offers nice fresh and crunchy fruit, enriched with mineral and spicy notes. The palate is medium bodied with red berry notes. The tannins are elegant, silky, enveloping and very soft. The finish is precise, clean and lively.

Winemaker Notes

The great virtue of this Vermentino is that it enhances the aromas and flavours peculiar to Bolgheri. Its clean, crisp flavour and purity are its distinguishing features. The grapes are harvested when their colour changes to an intense yellow. The name Solosole, meaning 'just sunshine', derives from the fact that the wine is essentially a direct result of the work undertaken in the vineyards and the ripening sun.

Golden yellow in colour with greenish hues, Solosole opens with notes of stone fruits such as peach and apricot, followed by sulphurous and flint-like notes. It has a medium body, with generous fruit character. The finish is long, dry and zesty, especially when young. It evolves interestingly in the glass, an indication of its excellent ageing capacity. 

The radiance of the Vermentino varietal reflects intensely in the aromas of Solosole, a white wine that captivates with its intense hints of flowers and unexpected yellow fruit. The palate has a medium body, is succulent and highly enjoyable. The development of the wine in the glass suggests that it has the potential to evolve for a few years. Appetizers, raw fish and, thanks to its freshness and aromatic character, fried seafood, fish stews and vegetable dishes. Serve at 8-10°C and open just before serving.

While Dedicato a Walter, a 100% Cabernet Franc, is the top wine of the estate, and Seggio is becoming the bestseller of the winery, Sondraia has increased in quality (and price). In 2017 it has an earthy minerality with spice complexity of clove, bark and walnut husk, supporting vibrant, ripe fruit. The mid-palate is very extracted yet velvety, leading to a warming finish.

The flavour of Mediterra fully reflects the characteristics of Bolgheri, displaying an extraordinary harmony between the freshness of its aromas and its warm, powerful flavours. The spicy note lent by the Syrah varietal makes the wine intensely enjoyable as well as easy to drink. 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon

Ruby red in colour with purple tints, this is a fragrant and intensely fruity wine, in which blackberry, plum and cherry are underpinned by spicy notes of white pepper and elegant herbaceous aromas. On the palate, it is fresh, intense, and surprisingly persistent. 

Meat dishes, cured meats and medium-mature cheeses such as pecorino, caciotta and toma. It should be served slightly chilled with fish dishes such as mullet with tomatoes, fish stews and Livorno-style baccalà (traditional salt cod). Serve at 14-16°C and open just before serving.

Marilisa and Franco Allegrini dedicated this single-varietal Cabernet Franc from their own vineyards on Via Bolgherese to their eldest brother Walter, who died in 2003. The 2015 vintage marked the beginning of an even more radical focus on the terroir and the quality of the grapes. Since then, a third fewer bottles have been filled each year, and the result is now a Bolgheri Superiore from their own grapes from the core zone of Bolgheri, which can hardly be surpassed in elegance and character. Compact and elegant Cabernet Franc with fine tobacco notes, ripe blackcurrant aromas, some pepper and eucalyptus, plus slightly earthy tones. Dense fruit and polished tannin on the palate, clear, rich final.
